Sharnikya Howard is an accomplished project manager and certified Safe Agilist (SA) leading software enterprises. She is also a certified Project Management Professional (PMP) and has provided stellar support to her clients. As a testament to her great work in the field, in June 2011 she was selected to join the Project Management Body of Knowledge Review Team for the most recently released “A Guide to the Project Management Body of Knowledge (PMBOK Guide) - 5th Edition”. As a member of the content committee she contributed text, concepts, and provided recommendations on drafts of the PMBOK Guide.
Sharnikya’s outstanding contributions have resulted in recognition from some of the most notable societies for women in the industry. She is a recipient of the Women of Color in Technology (WOC) - All Star Award, an award reserved for accomplished women of color at an advanced stage of their careers that have demonstrated excellence in the workplace and in their communities. Additionally, as a finalist for the Women in Technology (WIT)-Rising Star Award, Sharnikya has been recognized for not only succeeding in her career but for also mentoring the next generation of leaders.
In the community, Sharnikya is dedicated to serving and volunteers in several capacities including The Belle Connection, a mentoring program she founded in 2012 for young ladies in the 7th and 8th grades. She is a meal volunteer leader for Calvary Women’s Services where she organizes a group to provide meals to the residents and hosts a bi-annual spa day for living in transitional housing. She is also a long-time volunteer at Central Union Mission and serves on the board of directors for two local non-profits. She’s led programs through her non-profit Esther’s Hope Global, for women at Central Union Mission’s Family Ministry Center and the National Center for Children and Families (NCCF). Most recently, she partnered with Empowerment Station and the DC Mayor’s Office on Returning Citizen Affairs (ORCA) to provide a vision and purpose workshop to returning female citizens. She was also honored by her alma mater, Bennett College for Women with the “Movers and Shakers” Award, which is bestowed upon women who ‘move in silence around the greater DC area but make a significant impact on our global society’.
She attended the 2016 White House Summit on the United State of Women as a nominated change maker for her work to inspire women and was featured in a StyleWatch magazine ad highlighting the work she’s doing to empower women living in shelters and transitional housing programs. She has also been featured/interviewed by Fox5DC, Great Day Washington, Let’s Talk Live –News Channel 7, WKYS 93.9, The Daily Do Good, Jill’s House, Calvary Women’s Services, and GlambitiousIam. A lifetime volunteer, she’s served as a volunteer group leader for the Steve & Marjorie Harvey Foundation’s Girls Who Rule the World Mentoring camp and in her community serves several organizations like Central Union Mission and Calvary Women’s Services
A graduate of Bennett College for Women with a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science, Sharnikya also holds an MS in Project Management and MBA. When asked why she spends so much of her time serving the community, Sharnikya’s response is “I am the best me when I am serving others.”
