We’re holding up and here’s how- Queenie’s two-and-a-half, full of light, personality, spunk, and tenacity! It’s a lot at times but rather than dim her light I magnify it! I get really silly and make grand gestures…everything is EXTRA and she loves it.

I try to give her some semblance of school by learning through play. We log in for ballet and Spanish classes, practice French, and I’ve absolutely fallen in love with Miss Monica’s Circle Time but outside of that, I’ve opted for a variety of mommy and me play dates.

Here are a few:

  • Camping inside - Basically, all that you’d do on a camping trip with a toddler but at home. Don’t forget the tent!

  • Epic Fort Building - Get ready to see all of your pillows on the floor. Get over it.

  • Cooking – Q loves to help me cook and honestly she’s more likely to eat it if she had a hand in preparing it.  Pizza, spaghetti, and cookies (don’t forget the decorations) are always a big hit!

    • And then there’s what Queenie calls “mixing”. Ok, so this is a little messy but whatever. Lay a towel, rug, or anything washable on the kitchen floor, grab a few items from the refrigerator/pantry (ketchup, crackers, etc.),  a large bowl, a big spoon, and let your little one have it. They’ll enjoy “mixing” something. Lord only know what that “something” is, but it’s a good time!

  • Picnics – Similar to camping, grab whatever you’d like to eat, a blanket, and enjoy it inside or outside!

  • Blowing Bubbles - And yes, we do this inside too!

  • Freeze dance fun - Omg Q loves this! She’s pretty good at it too! Turn the music on and get to it!

  • Virtual Visits to the Zoo - It’s fun to watch the animals for a bit and talk about what we see!

I know this is hard, it’s hard for all of us and much harder for some. But look at it this way, it’s time we likely would have never gotten with our children. It’s okay to have questions, to have a bit of anxiety even but don’t dwell in that space. And while I hope my list above is helpful, please know that it’s completely ok to do absolutely nothing. Our children need to know that they are loved, that’s what’s most important. Keep that up!
